Just a thought #12: World Domination vs World Change

World Domination or World Change – Is either really ever possible?
The Revolution Network Interviews Roger Wynne-Dyke, Founder of ‘The EXPEDITION Project’ to find out

We find ourselves at an interesting fork in the road, not only in South Africa, but throughout the world. In one direction the people of planet Earth’s will find not only their world around them looking very different in 100 years time than it does today, but they too may be an extinct species altogether. The other fork leads to sustainable change, and a generation that realized that the next ten years are crucial for the survival of the Earth and its inhabitants.

This is the premise of a new project called The EXPEDITION Project. Based on the attitude of collaboration rather than competition it seeks out the latter of the Earth’s above forks in the road.

We spoke to founder Roger Wynne-Dyke to hear exactly what the realistic ambitions are of a bold project such as are…

TRN:
Let’s be frank for a minute, everybody knows the trouble the world is in both socially and environmentally. Do you really think a project like this will change arrogance into action?
Roger:
Yes and no, but I will die trying, that is for sure.

TRN:
So you think it will help?
Roger:
I don’t like to use clichés too much but, one step at a time, one person at a time; Rome wasn’t built in a day. Whether The EXPEDITION Project fulfills its objectives or not, what it will do it open up more is people’s eyes and ears. We are treating The EXPEDITION Project like a life’s task as well as a business. It has the passion behind it as well as the strategy. We are trying to approach it in a practical, simple way so that anyone can see and implement the benefits of mentality change and lifestyle change without it impacting their lives negatively.

TRN:
Ok so tell us a little more about The EXPEDITION Project’s goals for its first 3 year for example?
Roger:
We are launching phase one – our foundation project - in 2012. This will see a team traveling to 200 South African towns in one year, documenting as much as possible and then broadcasting the findings at the end of the year. We are looking for stories of hope, failures, and successes and basically to first hand record the state of the nation. We are keeping our options and minds open for this first year, as we truly want to open ourselves up to the voice of the people and the environment.

TRN:
So is it a social for environmental project?
Roger:
Both, for they are essentially the same thing. They rely on each other.

TRN:
If you could get one message across with The EXPEDITION Project, what would it be?
Roger:
One person can make a difference and should always try!

Renee:
Is this politically motivated in anyway?
Roger:
If you mean do we want governments involved then yes. If you mean has this project got a hidden government agenda then no.

TRN:
Ok, so how can your everyday Joe get involved?
Roger:
In anyway you can. Participate in our competitions, challenges, town visits, we want to hear from you, we need to hear from you. Your voice and opinion matters no matter who you are or where you are from, it matters. We will be making The EXPEDITION Project as accessible as possible to anyone and everyone. Radio, TV, Internet, Social Media, Cell phones – everything! Join us however you can, wherever you can and whenever you can. This project is about YOU. It’s about US. It’s about our nation. It’s about our world!

TRN:
And do you want big businesses partnering with you or assisting in any way?
Roger:
Absolutely! Any company, business or corporate that thinks they can keep up with us, definitely. This will bring corporate social investment into a new era. It will set a new bench mark. It will set new targets. It would be unusual for you not to be involved, as it is a win-win situation for everyone.

Can Roger and The EXPEDITION Project combine the power of corporate and government into social and environmental change? Only time will tell. If you are in any doubt, find out more about The EXPEDITION Project and share your opinions with them and us.

Maybe, as Roger Wynne-Dyke says, we will be the generation that makes all the difference. Maybe we will make our voice heard. And maybe this will be the vehicle in which to do it.

How much is Corporate Social Investment really about the people and the planet? And how much is actually about the profit? Are we already under a government plan? Is there any way to know for sure? Too many questions and not enough answers.

What I can tell you is that if the new cut down on the freedom of press is successful, articles of this nature will be few and far between. Maybe even projects like this will soon be restricted. How far will it go? Until then at least let us get behind The EXPEDITION Project and its team!
